This outline map does not include all shore stations that are known to have existed in the geographic area covered by this project. Only those locations most likely to be associated with known biographical subjects have been chosen. For Banks Peninsula, Port Underwood and Kapiti Island it is necessary to refer to a similar outline map to be found under the “Wahine Profiles” section, subsection “Contributors”. Under these areas detailed locality maps can be found that show the names of the individual stations. In the case of Banks Peninsula, note that shore stations were not located at Akaroa, Okains Bay, Pigeon Bay (the next deep bay to the east of Port Levy) or Port Levy. Pelagic Whalers/Bay Whalers did however visit these bays and harbours.

The most complete list of stations (both from the era under consideration and more modern times) is to be found in the Department of Conservation (Te Papa Atawhai) publication The Archaeology of New Zealand Shore Whaling by Nigel Prickett. An abridged version of this booklet is available on the Internet in electronic format and can be downloaded here.

I have also prepared my own list that specifically relates to the geographic area the subject of this project and to the historical era, which it encompasses. This list can be downloaded here: List (763 KB)
