Iwi That the Biographical Subjects Belonged To:
It is envisaged that biographical subject covered by this project will have in the main belonged to the following Iwi or Iwi groups:
Kāi Tahu Whānui (including Kāti Tahu, Kāti Māmoe and Waitaha)
Te Āti Awa (Wellington and Taranaki areas)
Ngāti Toa or Ngāti Toarangatira
Tūranganui-a kiwa Iwi
I have attempted to keep this list reasonably generic and inclusive.
There may be individuals who have an interest in a shore whaler’s partner from outside the geographic area encompassed by my project. They may consider that the inclusion of their subject’s biographical profile would add variety and assist in highlighting some particular aspect of the life that the shore whalers’ partners lead. Since it is important to keep an open mind when undertaking historical research of this nature, I am happy to consider these essays based on their individual merits.
